On behalf of the Nonprofit Practice at DHR Global, I am pleased to announce the successful appointment of Scott Altman as Executive Director of Miami City Ballet (MCB).
Scott brings more than 20 years of experience as chief executive of performing arts organizations. Most recently, as President & CEO of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, he drove forward the strategic transformation and brand elevation of the largest fully professional symphonic choral organization in the country. Previously, as President & CEO of the Cincinnati Ballet, he led unprecedented growth, revitalization, and rebranding of a 59-year-old, internationally recognized resident and touring ballet company. His tenure there was highlighted by the construction of an award-winning 62,000 sq. ft. Ballet Center.
Earlier roles include three years as Executive Director of Ballet West and four years as General Director of Arizona Opera. Scott began his arts administration career in 2002 by co-founding Opera New Jersey with his wife, following his first career as a professional bass-baritone managed by Columbia Artists Management, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the State University College at Purchase, a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music, and a certificate in nonprofit leadership from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Scott joins MCB as the company builds off the momentum of its 40th anniversary and enters the first curated season under new Artistic Director Gonzalo Garcia. As Executive Director, Scott will partner with Gonzalo, the staff, and the board to sustain MCB’s legacy of excellence and impact and to continue enhancing the company’s reach and relevance.
“Scott brings a rare combination of financial acumen, artistic understanding, and community-minded leadership,” said Board Chair Jeff Davis. “We are excited about Scott’s appointment as the leadership partner to Artistic Director Gonzalo Garcia. It is an important step forward for Miami City Ballet.”
We are proud to have partnered with MCB on this search – our seventh with the company. Scott will begin his role on June 30, 2026.
